The structure is simple: 20 minutes of coaching, 30 minutes of debriefing; 10 minutes of sense-making as a group. Every month we have a volunteer coach running the session, another volunteer being coached and everybody else in the group observing, taking notes and actively participating in the debriefing. The aim is to see as many styles of coaching as we possibly can and learn from the all.

Our founder, Alis Anagnostakis (PhD, PCC), kicked off this series of sessions in June 2023 by being the first volunteer coach and has now passed the baton to friend and fellow coach Tracy Winter (PhD, PCC) to lead the session on the 20th of July 2023 (9:30am-10:30am AEST) session with a volunteer from the virtual room. The August session will be on an European-friendly time zone (date TBD).

If you are considering volunteering to be coached, all you need is a genuine topic to bring into the session - a goal you are working towards, a dilemma you are facing - something unresolved or that you'd like more clarity or a new perspective on. It has to be a real topic, that matters to you - we will not do role-playing. And you would have to be willing to talk about this topic in front of the group openly. To preserve confidentiality, these sessions will not be recorded - so please enrol only if you can make it live on Zoom on the day.

If you want to join and observe, you are very welcome. We encourage you to take notes and then actively participate in the debriefing conversation following the coaching session.

This initiative aims to offer coaches (or leaders, educators, and facilitators with an interest in coaching) a safe, open space to practice and see other coaches at work. We learn just as much from coaching others, being coached or witnessing a coaching session. We intend to offer you the opportunity to play any (and all) of these roles. Our highest hope is that this will contribute to demystifying what effective coaching looks/feels like and supporting a community of practice that goes beyond any particular coaching school, program or framework.

We welcome coaches of all orientations, from every school of thought, as long as they are willing to abide by the foundational ethical principles of the International Coaching Federation, which guide our practice (please read the ICF code of ethics linked here, if you are unfamiliar with it).

The “One Coaching Session” project is on a break and will return in Feb 2024 with new dates.
