What is the self? Are you the same now as you were 20 years ago? Are you made of one thing or contain multiplicities? Are you your thoughts or have thoughts? There's more to Us than meets the eye.
I used to be obsessed with ‘Showing up’ authentically. Now I don’t know what to be authentic is anymore. I think this could be an expression of a shifting sense of self.
And perhaps this is an invitation to re-define what 'authentic' means and explore the possibility that it your Self may be growing and inquiring into what might showing up authentically now look like (while allowing for it to be a fluid, rather than fixed thing)?
I like the inquiry and it's helpful to sense into the radically different places clients could be in... and can't help but point out there's no mention of a possible 3rd way (unless I missed it)... that the evolution of the self means holding the paradox of "no self" and "self"; in other words, that we're continuously evolving-- never fixed and yet "becoming" someone. And the research on vertical development actually implies this. Perhaps I missed something in the interview?
This one will make you think!
